Northwind Lodge Biking Areas
There are some nice biking opportunities on gravel roads at Northwind Lodge. Lodge guests get free use of mountain bikes and explore these areas for no additional charge if they desire. Helmets are required and provided for no charge as well.

Almost all biking terrain will be gravel roads with moderately difficult terrain. There are no paved trails here so pulling child trailers is not an option and we do not provide child carriers for the backs of bikes. Generally, most children under the age of 11 will need to move a a much slower pace. However, the smaller kids do seem to have a lot of fun riding the pedal go-cart and smaller bikes in the yard under the supervision of Mom or Dad.

This is one region where our guests ride (anywhere along yellow line). It's all heavily wooded and pretty much off of the highway with the exception of riding down the Moose Lake Public road (paved and at the yellow arrow). Covers a wide variety of terrain including short choppy hills, bigger rolling hills and flats. Take your time and use the gearing on the bike to your advantage. This route allows you the opportunity to see some different lakes along the way. All trails are "out & back" with no loops. You will need to watch for traffic as it can be present at anytime, although not generally prevalent on the gravel roads.

Bike Route at Northwind Lodge - Ely MN

This area is a bit beyond Northwind Lodge towards the end of the road which is Lake One. These areas provide excellent, all-gravel, biking opportunities with bigger rolling hills. There are no single-track trails anywhere in the Ely area. Northwind Lodge is the only resort offering mountain bike riding opportunities in the Ely area.
